"Pompei" is an original song composed by Theodore Koumartzis on an ancient Lyre of Sarcophagus, with 13 strings and a built-in pickup. The melody is inspired by the unfortunate story of Pompeii, which was completely buried under volcanic ash back in 79 A.D.
When it was re-discovered, in 1755, scholars found an unexpected and immense window into the past and the ancient Roman world, inspiring important visitors such as Goethe, and Mozart.
“In the darkness, some prayed for help, others wished for death. But still more imagined that there were no Gods left and that the universe was plunged into eternal darkness.”
― Pliny the Younger (61-113 A.D.)

// Lyre of Sarcophagus (13 strings) with Built-in Pickup – Collector Edition
This is a premium Collector Edition replica of the Lyre of Sarcophagus, based on some of the oldest lyre depictions around the world. This elaborate instrument is inspired by the “Orpheus Fresco” found at the throne room of the Palace of Nestor at Pylos, dated back to 1300-1200 BC. The Palace of Nestor is located at the kingdom of “sandy Pylos” in Greece (as described in Homer’s Odyssey), an important center in Mycenaean times. This, along with the decoration of the Hagia Triada Sarcophagus (dated 1420-1380 BC), portray an Aegean portable symmetrical lyre, decorated with the neck and heads of water birds.
This new and elaborate LUTHIEROS Lyre of Sarcophagus has 13 strings, a top-notch built-in pickup, and an impressive bright sound. Its arms are masterfully ornamented with themes from ancient Greece, and more specifically with surviving art dated back to the Mycenaean times (1600-1100 BC). This instrument is ideal for professional musicians willing to awe their audience, as it is a marvelous artifact both in terms of appearance and sound. It is ready for studio recordings and live events, thanks to its built-in pickup. Due to its 13 strings, it gives more than a full octave, making it an ideal instrument for anyone willing to focus on the ancient musical heritage. Whatsmore, with the use of harmonics and other advanced playing techniques, the Lyre of Sarcophagus can produce three to four full octaves, including sharps!
