Attorney Tony Buzbee sued Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter's company Roc Nation on Wednesday (December 18) for allegedly pushing fraudulent ligation by trying to pay his current and former clients to accuse him of fraud. The lawsuit names Roc Nation and the law firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP as defendants, as well as investigator Jessica Martinez and Texas lawyer Marcy Croft. The lawsuit says the effort "is intended to interfere with The Buzbee Law Firm’s ability to represent its clients, and offer pertinent evidence to authorities."
At the same time, Carter's lawyer Alex Spiro, at a partner at Quinn in New York City, wants a judge to order Buzbee to preserve all evidence related to the lawsuit he filed against Carter and Sean "Diddy" Combs. The motion says there's substantial risk Buzbee will destroy evidence to avoid possible sanctions for filing a frivolous lawsuit. Spiro filed a motion today asking Judge Analisa Torres to issue an order to show cause that would essentially order Buzbee to prove why he shouldn't have to preserve evidence.
The judge still hasn't responded to Spiro's request on Friday to shorten the window for filing a motion to strike from 21 days to one day.
