Over 10,000 farmers from Gatundu south in Kiambu county were set to benefit from the national government irrigation schemes that would soon kick off in the region. 350 families would be relocated to other places to pave way for the construction of Rwambura and Thiririka dams that would be used for the irrigation.The first phase of Rwambura and Thiririka irrigation schemes was expected to be complete in one and half years time at a cost of 800 million shillings, funded by the Kenyan and Spanish governments.
