STORYLINE:
Exiled Tibetan activists staged a rally in the French city of Nice on Friday, calling on world leaders to put more pressure on China over its human rights record after a wave of self-immolations in Tibet.
At least 11 Tibetans have set themselves on fire in China in recent months to protest against Chinese restrictions on Tibetan religion and culture.
Friday's protest came as world leaders - including Chinese President Hu Jintao - attended a global economic summit that is being overshadowed by Europe's debt crisis, in southern France.
Waving Tibetan flags and chanting "Shame on China", protesters asked the Group of 20 major rich and emerging economies to bring up the issue of Tibet with the Chinese government.
"They have a lot of economic business relation between China and Europe ... so Tibet is... Horrible situation in Tibet," said Thilmny, one of the protesters.
European leaders had meant to use the summit of the Group of 20 leading economies in Cannes, France to get foreign powers like China to help with the debt crisis that has rocked the eurozone for the past two years and threatens to push the world economy into a second recession.
Now, it's growing powers like China, Brazil and South Africa that have to decide whether helping Europe is a worthy investment.
