What is the secular progressive agenda, and why is secular progressivism a problem? David Barton, Founder of Wallbuilders, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of America’s heroes, history and religious foundation, answers those questions in this short video.
He explains the secular progressive agenda by first breaking down the terms, secular and progressive. Starting with the word secular, he says, “Secular is not God. … Secular excludes God and God’s way of thinking.”
Barton points out that the problem with excluding God from government is that human rights become subjective. The line between what is good and acceptable and what is wrong and immoral becomes blurry. It is only by holding thoughts and actions up to the light of Scripture that humanity can know right from wrong.
Then Barton defines progressivism: “Progressivism says we’re always evolving. We don’t need what was in the past because we’re a whole lot smarter than they were.”
Combine these two terms—secular and progressive—and the result is a political agenda that is constantly changing without regard for God or the wisdom that comes with experience. Old ideas are viewed as passé simply because they are old, not because they are ineffective. The secular progressive agenda constantly pushes to make changes based on seemingly good, new ideas. The problem comes in when these ideas and methods have no basis. They are not tested or vetted.
