This video was taken in May 2019 during a massage course in Australia. Ed has had a tight sore big toe for 10 years and has asked me to get stuck in and loosen it up. Ed has a high pain threshold and a strong desire to get better and is fit and healthy so I work him quite strongly. Do not try these massage techniques at home unless you have been trained in Raynor massage as you could hurt someone if you don't do it properly.
The big toes have two joints the metatarsophalangeal joint (MCP joint), which is the joint closest to the middle of the foot and the interphalangeal joint which is in the toe itself. Ed has had a sore MCP joint.
Later I also work his other toes. The other toe joints in the 4 other toes are called the
👉Metatarsophalangeal joint (MCP) – the joint at the base of the toe
👉Proximal interphalangeal joint (PIP) – the joint in the middle of the toe
👉Distal phalangeal joint (DP) – the joint closest to the tip of the toe.
Reflexology is a form of alternative therapy that involves applying pressure to specific points on the feet (and sometimes the hands and ears) to promote healing and relaxation throughout the body. Here are some of the key benefits of reflexology on the feet:
Stress Reduction: Reflexology induces a state of deep relaxation, which helps reduce stress levels. By stimulating nerve endings on the feet, reflexology promotes the release of endorphins, neurotransmitters that help alleviate stress and promote feelings of relaxation and well-being.
Improved Circulation: Reflexology helps improve blood circulation throughout the body, including the feet. By stimulating reflex points that correspond to various organs and systems, reflexology encourages better blood flow, which can help deliver oxygen and nutrients to the cells while removing metabolic waste products.
Pain Relief: Reflexology can help relieve pain and discomfort in the feet caused by conditions such as plantar fasciitis, arthritis, or neuropathy. By stimulating specific reflex points associated with pain relief, reflexology helps reduce inflammation, release tension in the muscles, and promote natural pain relief mechanisms.
Enhanced Relaxation and Sleep Quality: Reflexology promotes relaxation and helps induce a deeper state of sleep. By activating the parasympathetic nervous system, reflexology reduces stress levels and promotes a sense of calmness, which can help improve sleep quality and duration.
Balancing of Body Systems: Reflexology is based on the principle that specific reflex points on the feet correspond to different organs and systems of the body. By applying pressure to these reflex points, reflexology helps restore balance and harmony to the body's systems, promoting overall health and well-being.
Detoxification: Reflexology helps stimulate the lymphatic system, which plays a crucial role in removing toxins and waste products from the body. By promoting lymphatic drainage, reflexology helps eliminate toxins and supports the body's natural detoxification processes.
Improved Digestion: Reflexology can help improve digestion by stimulating reflex points associated with the digestive organs, such as the stomach and intestines. By promoting better blood flow and nerve function to these organs, reflexology helps enhance digestion, reduce bloating, and alleviate symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort.
In summary, reflexology on the feet offers numerous benefits for physical, emotional, and mental well-being, including stress reduction, improved circulation, pain relief, enhanced relaxation and sleep quality, balancing of body systems, detoxification, boosted immune function, improved digestion, hormonal balance, and overall well-being. Whether used as a standalone treatment or as part of a comprehensive wellness regimen, reflexology can be a valuable tool for promoting health and vitality.
