The Opposition, that was already unhappy about the elaborate puja held during the inauguration of the 6.5 metre National Emblem by PM Modi, is now criticising the government for allegedly changing the look of the four lions in the emblem. Leaders of several political parties said the four lions in the national emblem unveiled by PM Modi look angry compared to those atop the ‘Lion Capital of Asoka’ at Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh. TMC MP Jawahar Sircar demanded that the National Emblem on the new Parliament building should be immediately changed. TRS leader Y Satish Reddy and activist Prashant Bhushan too criticised the Modi govt for allegedly changing the look of the lions in the emblem. The govt, however, has rejected the charges and said the National Emblem has been made as per approved design.
