This was an amazing encounter with a Galapagos Shark.
She slowly approached the divers with curiosity but no animosity, showing her grace and beauty.
Take a look at that distended belly! This could mean she is a pregnant shark.

Did you know Galapagos sharks can have anything between 6-16 pups at a time?
Also, even though their name suggests that they are only found in the Galapagos, they actually have a wide circumtropical distribution.
They are currently threatened by industrial fisheries as they frequently fall prey as incidental catch on longlines, purse-seine nets, and gill nets.

That is why creation and regulation of MPA’s such as the Galapagos Marine Reserve are so important for this species.
