(5 Aug 2020) Pakistan's ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) held a rally and train march in Karachi on Wednesday to express solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Today marks the first anniversary of India's controversial decision to revoke the disputed region's semi-autonomous status.
The government of Pakistan decided to organise rallies to protest the Indian decision.
India's Hindu-nationalist government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi downgraded the state of Jammu and Kashmir, and divided it into two federally governed territories on 5 August last year.
Pakistani protesters took part in a train march from Karachi to Sukker and chanted against Modi.
Since India's controversial decision last year, New Delhi has brought in a slew of new laws which locals say are aimed at shifting the demographics in the Muslim-majority region, many of whom want independence from India or unification with Pakistan.
Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan, and claimed by both in its entirety.
