On second day we took off from Nainital and went to Mukteshwar dham which is 2 hours ride from there. On the way to Almora we stopped at the famous Mukteshwar dham temple and Chauli ki jali (Cliff point). There is no entry ticket for both and you have to walk for 1 km to reach till the cliff.
Jali it is called due to the big gaping hole right in the middle of hard firm rock, as if someone has punched a mighty strong fist right through it! Such is the fame of the hole of Chauli Ki Jali that locals believed that women who have trouble conceiving get the mercy and showers of the Lord if they put their head in the hole. They are soon blessed with babies!
The 350 year old Shiva temple in Mukteshwar Dham is situated on top of a hill. The stone stairs lead you to the deity’s abode. It is believed the lord Shiva killed a demon here and granted him salvation (Mukti).
