The Constitution Class Starship, operated by Starfleet from and was deployed in the 2240s. Designed for long deration mission, this class could operate independently without support for up to 5 years. The Constitution Class was perfectly suited for extended exploration mission. In the early 2277s the Constitution Class starships underwent a retrofit. In reality these ships where virtually rebuild with all major components being replace and upgraded. The Constitutions went on to serve for at least the next century.
