The curtain have lifted once again at Kyiv's iconic ‘Zhovten' cinema. It reopened to much pomp and ceremony on Sunday, October 18, a year after being largely destroyed in an arson attack.
The movie theatre had, for years, been renowned for hosting various film festivals and screening the best examples of Ukrainian cinema. At the weekend, hundreds queued outside, hoping for the opportunity to purchase tickets for the first screening – all to the tune of a brass band.
