Key Word Sign is research-based to help children Receptive (understanding and listening) and Expressive (talking, answering, requesting).
These are KEY signs to supplement the verbal/oral words during communication.
Using sign does NOT reduce verbal/oral words and in fact, research shows that signs help with verbal words if that is something a child will do.
Key Word Sign is not AUSLAN or American Sign Language (a complete language system) but rather a combination of gestures and signs to help with overall understanding and expressive language while communicating with another person.
