Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar is visiting Nepal today. He is scheduled to arrive in Nepal today at 10 am to participate in the meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission at the invitation of Foreign Minister NP Saud.
According to the tour schedule, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar will go to Sheetal Niwas to meet President Ramchandra Paudel at 11 am. Then at 12 noon, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal will meet with Prachanda in Baluwatar. After meeting with Foreign Minister Saud at Hotel Yak & Yeti at 1 p.m., he will participate in the meeting of the Joint Commission from 1:15 p.m.
A 10,000 megawatt power purchase agreement is scheduled to be signed between the two countries at 2:30 p.m. After that, Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar is scheduled to hold separate meetings with Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML President KP Sharma Oli. He will return to India tomorrow.
The seventh meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission has been concluded with the signing of four different agreements. In the meeting, the overall issues of bilateral relations as well as various areas of mutual cooperation were reviewed. Agreements on expansion of communication network, trade, water resources and energy trade have been signed between the two countries.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Foreign Minister NP Saud and Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar. According to Amrit Bahadur Rai, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, an agreement regarding Indian grant assistance has been signed for the implementation of high impact community development projects through government organizations or any other organization.
Similarly, a long-term energy trade agreement has been signed between the two countries. According to this agreement, 10,000 megawatts of electricity can be exported in the next 10 years. A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Nepal Electricity Authority and the National Thermal Power Corporation of the Government of India on cooperation for the development of renewable energy.
An agreement has also been signed between Nepal Institute of Science and Technology (NAST) and New Space India (NSIL) on behalf of the Indian Space Research Organization and the Department of Space on the Munal satellite launch service on the polar satellite launch vehicle.
Raxaul Parwanipur, Kushaha Kataiya and New Nautanwa Mainahia international transmission lines of 132 kilovolt capacity between the two countries have been inaugurated today. The Government of India has announced a grant of Rs 10 billion for post-earthquake reconstruction.
