The 2 Japanese men went right to put heads together right at the beginning and started banging away for Sakata's Japanese Flyweight title, Sakata making his 4th defense.

The men would bang and bang and bang some more for the entire 10 round contest, landing bombs from start to finish ending in an understandably close contest where the Japanese flyweight title would change hands since it was vacated and grabbed by Sakata back in April 2001, almost exactly a year prior. Nakanuma would edge a majority decision with scores of 96-96, 98-96 & 97-96 in favor of Tokyo native, Trash Nakanuma.
