A tutorial for designing a Floating Offshore Wind Turbine using a Spar hull. It starts with hull calculations in Excel spreadsheet and ends with the numerical hydrodynamic model in Ansys. Storm wave conditions are applied for demonstration.
The instructions include a 100 m long Spar hull design, a 5 MW WTG with 100 m hub height, the catenary mooring system made of chain and polyester sections, the power cable, the 3D CAD model, the hydrodynamic response in frequency domain and the solution for a storm condition in time domain.
