Ancient woods have been in our landscape for over 400 years and are an irreplaceable habitat for many insects, birds, and mammals. As part of the Lost Woods in the Low Weald and Downs project, we are tracking and recording ancient and veteran trees in the Ancient Tree Inventory.
Our volunteer Jeremy explains the role of the Tree Recorder in the Lost Woods project and Jim Smith-Wright from the Woodland Trust explains the importance of our ancient trees and why we need to protect them for the future.
Lost Woods is a partnership project led by The Woodland Trust, Action in Rural Sussex, Sussex Wildlife Trust and Small Woods Association, with funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, made possible by players of the National Lottery.
