(13 Jun 2014) Brazilians in Sao Paulo who couldn't get into the stadium to watch the opening match flocked to public screens to watch the game, celebrating their win with customary passion.
Thursday was a public holiday in Sao Paulo, so fans were out in force, with people on the streets early, singing and chanting their support.
Brazil won 3-1 after a bumpy start with an own goal that gave Croatia the first point of the championship.
For a solitary Croatia fan, there were no hard feelings.
"Croatia played a good game," said Tony Dadinic.
"The referee was a little ... on the side of Brazil but we lost, what can you say. We have two games against Cameroon and Mexico we hope for the best."
