Yom Kippur or The Day of Atonement is the Holiest Day in Judaism.
According to tradition, the first Yom Kippur was observed in Sinai desert during Israelites journey from Egypt. Moses had gone up to the mountain and came back with the commandments from God that were inscribed by the finger of God { Exodus 31:18} but he found the Israelites worshipping idol in form of a calf {Exodus 32:19} then out of anger he broke the tablets.
Moses asks God to forgive the Israelites by making an atonement for their sin {Exodus 32: 30 -35}
Yom Kippur thus became the Sabbath of Sabbaths

Yom Kippur lasts for 25 hours
