Over the past week, my brothers and I have been making the necessary arrangements to settle the assets and possessions of our late Mom, who passed away on May 18, 2020. That meant I ended up inheriting the family cast iron, which should come as a surprise to no one at all. Some of the items in this collection are seasoned and as good as new, and I'm not even sure if Mom ever used them; while at least one large cast iron wok was used regularly, and needed to be cleaned up and restored to working condition. This was also an excuse to clean up a few more cast iron items that had been soaking in the lye tank since last fall, when I dropped them in and left them there all winter. And so, here comes another session of cleaning dirty and rusty cast iron, and making them look as good as new.
