Stratton St Margaret, once a village in its own right, is now a suburb at the North end of Swindon, and has been inhabited since Roman times. Parts of the church date from the 13th Century and the church is popular for weddings.
The bells, however, are a big disappointment. Aside from the 7th, which is an older bell, they were cast by Mears of Whitechapel at varying periods. They do not sound very nice - the two tenors in particular are buckets - are oddstruck and unrewarding, and can be quite flighty for the inexperienced. However, they are useful for peals as they have excellent sound control!!
The video shows the 7 & 8 being turned over to give an idea of how dire they are, rounds and an excerpt from a quarter of Cambridge on the 8, and finishes with Aaron having a little sanky grab!! :-)
