(15 Sep 1976) The Syrian and Israeli authorities on Wednesday (Sept 15) allowed members of Druze families pass through the ceasefire lines on the Golan Heights for their first reunions since the 1967 Middle East war.
Year after year, members of 72 families, split by the Middle East conflict have had to communicate across the half- mile-wide (1 km) United Nations - controlled buffer zone by means of loudspeakers.
After lengthy negotiations, Israel and Syria have driven roads through old mine-fields to the meeting-point, set up by United Nations peace-keeping troops in no-man's-land
