Have you ever noticed that the baseball swing has a LOT of moving parts? And not only that, but hitting mechanics have to happen in correct sequence, in the right location, and with incredibly precise timing… so you can “hit a round ball with the square part of a round bat.”
This is why the great Ted Williams famously said, “Hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in sports.”
And this is also why deceptively simple (and sometimes weird-feeling) batting tee drills can be so incredibly helpful for youth baseball and softball players.
As an art professor once told his students… “The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak.” And that is exactly what today’s drill does for anyone who struggling with a bat path issue. We’re eliminating the unnecessary variables in the swing, so we can take a brief moment to focus on bat path.
The Bat Path Drill is great batting tee drill for youth baseball, or for any hitter who wants to:
-- Stop chopping down on the baseball
-- Fix an "uphill" swing
-- Stop "getting around the ball"
-- Stop cutting off swing
-- Fix weak position at point of contact
-- Stop rolling over
This batting tee drill a simple way to help hitters isolate their bat path (temporarily removing other swing variables) so they can focus specifically on achieving the proper bat path. So if your baseball or softball hitter is struggling with any of those VERY COMMON bat path issues, it will help to have this drill in your tool box.
