This is a really cool antique Columbia Family Scale kitchen scale that was made by Landers Frary & Clark out of New Britain, CT. around 1907. The Landers Frary & Clark Company made thousands of different household products from 1865 to 1965 when it was sold to GE. Many of their house wares were sold under the 'Universal' moniker. This line was later bought from GE by another company called Universal which is still in operation to this day.
This scale was marketed as the 'Columbia Family Scale' and would have been a common piece of equipment to find in any farm kitchen. It has a 25lb. capacity.
I got this one off of eBay from a guy in KS. It's rusty and pretty beat up but seems to work for the most part. In its current state it's definitely not something I'd want anywhere near my kitchen!
