Sometimes flash can be used with long exposures to create some great effects, in this tutorial i experiment with mixing light types , long exposures and rear curtain sync. beginners don't be put off it can easily be done outside at night with a good flash a garage light and a medium level dslr Any decent camera and flash will have a rear curtain sync ,sometimes known as second curtain synchronisation setting. Set those to on. then all you need is a long exposure, during the long exposure with the camera on manual, you will see the model in movement , then try again with a flash you will see a movement then at the end the subject will be frozen by the flash, a normal flash sync setting would have the flash fire at the start of the exposure leaving the movement at the end.
Any beginner photographer can take images like this, if you have a model of course.
