Japan's government is facing growing criticism for its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Large parts of the country, including Tokyo and Osaka, have entered an extended state of emergency. There have been concerns that the Japanese are letting their guard down as the fight against COVID-19 drags on and previous rounds of restrictions failed to bring down the number of new cases.
