According to bassist Duff McKagan, Slash of Guns N' Roses initially tried to sabotage the song "Sweet Child O' Mine" because he didn't like it. Despite being one of their most iconic songs, Slash hoped that the intro would clash with the rest of the tune, causing the band to abandon it all together. In an interview, Slash explained, "I was sitting around making funny faces and acting like an idiot, and I played that riff. Izzy Stradlin started strumming the chords I was playing, and all of a sudden, Axl really liked it. I hated that song at first because it was so stupid. I hated the guitar part.” Later Slash would change his thoughts on the song and actually like it.
