Lufthansa Trip Report flying from Madrid to Frankfurt onboard one of the Lufthansa Airbus A320, in Business Class, on a very stormy afternoon.
What a flight! First time in the Lufthansa Business Class, for sure, I will never forget this flight. The service onboard the Lufthansa Business Class is exactly the opposite of the Economy Class, but we'll talk about it later. The main event of this flight was, no doubts, the storm supercell that was exactly over Madrid when we took off from Madrid-Barajas airport.
It was, for sure, one of the biggest storms I've ever seen. It was everywhere. You could look 180° and it was there. You could look at the sky and it was covering it all. It was huge. Luckily, the ones on our departure sector were smaller isolated cumulonimbus, so we could circumnavigate them. In any case, we departed using the full thrust available (TOGA). It's the usual procedure when departing with storms nearby, so in case of a windshear, the full thrust is already set.
Then, once at cruise altitude, turbulence appeared. It was pretty strong, to be honest. The crew, of course, had to stop the onboard service because of it for at least 10-15 minutes. It wasn't the best moment to have a glass of any liquid on your tray table. I guess that gives a nice description of the feeling.
About the route itself, we departed from runway 14L from Madrid. After several turns to avoid different storm clouds, we set direct course towards the Cantabrian sea, to the north of Spain. We soon entered France and flew towards Paris. From there we made a right turn towards Frankfurt. After a beautiful night approach, we landed in Frankfurt just a few minutes after our scheduled arrival time.
