If you are an English learner who calls people DEAR to show respect, you are using DEAR incorrectly because DEAR is not a word that shows respect. In fact, it does the opposite. It shows familiarity and intimacy.
And obviously, this is not about "Dear + name" when writing letters/emails. Doing that is fine. This video is for people who call people "dear" instead of their name or something else. For example: Thank you, dear.
