President Cyril Ramaphosa says the South African National Defence Force's main priority is to secure the safety of South Africans who are still stranded in Mozambique.
He confirmed that some South African's have already been evacuated from the neighbouring country. Ramaphosa was responding to SABC's question on South Africa's reaction to the current situation in the Pemba Cabo Delgado region of Mozambique.
The President was in Soweto at the Meadowlands Zone 7 Methodist church paying homage to the late Mama Nomzamo Winnie Mandela.
In 2018, the struggle icon that has been described as a symbol of the struggle against apartheid passed on after a long illness. Military operations continue in Palma following an attack that killed dozens and uprooted thousands on the northern Mozambican coastal town.
Portugal is also reportedly ready to send 60 soldiers to help train armed forces in Cabo Delgado.
