Oscar is a cat who has an uncanny ability to predict when someone is about to die. He has been living at Steere House for six months and has been observed napping near resident patients who died within a few hours afterward. The staff at Steere House believe that Oscar was trying to provide comfort to the dying patients. Joan Teno, a physician at Steere House, has commented that Oscar always seems to make an appearance within the last two hours before the patient passes away. After Oscar accurately predicted 25 deaths, the staff started to notify family members of the impending death so they can have a chance to say goodbye. As of 2015, it is believed that Oscar has accurately predicted the death of 100 patients.
