The largest meat processing plants in America are closing down including Smithfield pork plant in SD. Massie warns we could see meat shortages in weeks not months after the largest plants have already closed some areas will see it sooner. In Pennsylvania, 4 meat plants have already closed and many are struggling with worker retention. The prime act is also a new bill that would open up meat sales from local farmers to the general public. The meat plants that have closed or been reduced include Smithfield, JBS, Tyson, Cargill, CTI foods, Sanderson Farms, Perdue, Pilgrims poultry, Empire chicken. This is at a time when many Americans have been struggling to find food.
