Korg unveiled the padKONTROL MIDI controller at Winter NAMM, and we got the goods. Each of the padKONTROL's 16 velocity-sensitive triggers is assignable to a MIDI note and channel, so you can use it summon forth just about any combination of sounds from any combination of MIDI devices in your setup. (You can also map it to handle non-musical chores like controlling your DAW's transport.) The padKONTORL offers eight possible "velocity curves," so you can assign each pad it's own velocity characteristic. You can also control flam and roll parameters via the X-Y pad, and map whatever you want to the two assignable knobs (and to the X-Y pad, if flam and roll aren't your thing). The pads themselves are illuminated in familar Korg fashion, while the display shows the MIDI values you are sending in real time.
