(24 Nov 2017) Shoppers who scattered in panic and took shelter in shops in central London during a security incident on Friday spoke of their experiences.
Charley Eve was in an Oxford Street shop when he and other shoppers took shelter in the basement for around an hour when the security alert began.
"At first it was put off that it was apparently fireworks. So people were obviously relieved and we started leaving again, but then something happened and we all started running again."
Another shopper in the area said police urged people to run and "don't look back."
Shoppers scattered in panic and police flooded the area after multiple reports of shots being fired at Oxford Circus underground station.
But an hour later police said they had found no sign of any gunshots, suspects or casualties.
The panic erupted on one of the busiest shopping days of the year, in a jittery city that has been hit by four violent attacks this year.
The area, full of big-name chain shops and department stores, was packed with shoppers browsing Black Friday sales.
