This structure fire training teaches firefighters how to properly and safely use chains to tow vehicles away during ev battery fires. Next Level Extrication instructor, Paul Shoemaker takes firefighters through step-by-step instructions on this ev car fire technique.
Below is the transcription of this firefighter training video:
Now let’s talk about the chains.
Using it to pull out the A post, like that, and pulling the car forward. Right?
If you’re trying to do a quick move.
You can see how easy that is. If I have to smash the window, I smash the window. I stick it in there. I now have the other one where I can do it to the other side.
If I tow it normally, I got to find something down low. Right?
And, you’re looking for hooks down there, but if its blowing out at 2,800 degrees. You really want to walk up to this thing at 2,800 degrees and try to tie something off underneath?
So, walk up to the car, stand on the car, I come right up, I stay away from the fire. I stick that one through like that, stick that one through like that. Grab my oblong, come right off. Hook that into whatever I need and tow the thing right out.
