Our second stop on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail was a tasting at Kentucky Peerless Distilling Co., and it did not disappoint! After grabbing a drink at Michter’s Bar at Fort Nelson, we walked over to Peerless—turns out there was plenty of parking, but the New Yorker in me didn’t trust it. 😅
I’ve always loved Peerless Small Batch, but trying some of their single barrel bourbons totally leveled up my appreciation. For $18 per person, we got to taste some awesome picks like their cognac barrel finish, double oak, and toasted bourbon—each one was better than the last.
The highlight of the visit? Meeting Corky Taylor, the fourth-generation owner and a recent inductee into the Bourbon Hall of Fame! Corky told us some great stories during the tasting and even signed the bottles we picked up at the gift shop.
We left with bottles of the Double Oak and Toasted Barrel bourbons (wish we could’ve taken more, but airline baggage rules, am I right?). Out of the nine distilleries we hit on the trail, Peerless was easily one of our favorites.
If you’re heading to Louisville, definitely check them out. Cheers! 🥃
