Iran Reportedly Moving to Acquire JF-17 Block III Jets from Pakistan
Several Arab defense media outlets report that the primary objective of the Iranian Air Force chief’s recent visit is to initiate discussions about acquiring the JF-17 “Thunder” fighter jets, jointly developed by Pakistan and China.
The JF-17 is a product of collaboration between Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) and Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group (CAIG).
Iran has shown particular interest in the latest variant, the JF-17 Block III, which integrates advanced fifth-generation fighter technologies.
Iranian Air Force Commander Brigadier General Hamed Wahidi was in Pakistan recently, leading a delegation of senior military officials to strengthen defense ties between the two neighboring countries.
During his visit, Wahidi was reported observing the Indus Shield 2024 air exercise and hold meetings with his Pakistani counterpart, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar, in Islamabad.
