STORYLINE:
More than two-thousand police were deployed on Saturday to guard the Beijing Olympics torch relay as demonstrators gathered in Athens to protest China's human rights record.
A small group of Danish protesters congregated outside the headquarters of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, several hours before the flame was due to reach Athens.
Protesters said they had tried to follow the torch relay from central Greece to Athens but were kept back by police.
"We are here because of this Orange Project, which is about the human rights, especially in China," said Michel, a protester from Denmark.
Protesters held flyers that read: "Can China ban the colour Orange?"
The flyers refer to a project called "The Colour Orange" that encourages protesters to use the colour orange as a sign of protest throughout the 2008 Olympic Games.
Greek officials kept details of the route's Athens leg under tight wraps - fearing a repeat of protests by human rights campaigners and opponents of China's violent crackdown in Tibet that marred Monday's flame-lighting ceremony in Ancient Olympia.
The precise route was not being made public for security reasons, police said.
Inside the headquarters of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, Greek and Chinese officials condemned the recent protests.
President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, Minos Kyriakou, said the protests were carried out by the "super, super minority".
"We have gathered here to honour the Olympic spirit, the Olympic Games and not the demonstrations," said Kyriakou.
Kyriakou's words were echoed by Wang Wei, executive vice president of the Beijing organising committee.
