The Australian Defence Force has deployed a contingent of more than 400 personnel to participate in Exercise BERSAMA LIMA 2023 (BL23) in Malaysia. BL23 is an annual training exercise conducted between nations of the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA) – Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
BL23 is designed to exercise the militaries of the FPDA in combined joint operations in a simulated multi-threat environment to enhance our interoperability and strengthen professional relationships.
The FPDA came into being in 1971 and is the only multilateral security arrangement of its kind in Southeast Asia.
