I recently finished a fantastic book from Malcolm Gladwell called The Tipping Point (affiliate) and I had to share it with you.
Yes. It's 13 years old. Yes. I'm way behind. Let's move past that.
I was absolutely engrossed with this book from beginning to end (so was Lucy... I read to her). There were so many interesting case studies and thought processes that really made me look at a lot of things differently, both personally and professionally. I knew from the start this was going to be a great recommendation for those of you who haven't picked it up yet.
In The Tipping Point, Gladwell discusses pertinent information for how an epidemic happens. Somewhat random. Somewhat mathematical. Somewhat scientific. Totally interesting and relevant for your brand in understanding virality and the types of people that make it possible.
He talks about the stickiness factor which is something often talked about in marketing. Like how we can share content is that sticky and makes an audience continue on a trends to advocate and follow our brand. Really fascinating information to further understand how this works and how you can make it happen. Another great section on the power of context and how people react and conduct themselves differently according to their environment.
The greatest takeaway is truly how important small adjustments can be to make something more sticky getting it closer to its tipping point. Even though we as brands and business owners try to think so big about how we can make a difference and get our names out there, sometimes it's something a small as meeting the right person or offering the smallest effort of customer service that can make the difference.
