In this video I show you how to improve recording quality in OBS Studio. There are a few reasons why you may have poor recording quality. One of the more common reasons being that the output resolution is set too low. If your output resolution is set low then you will have bad recording quality as there isn’t enough pixels to create a high quality image.
Another way that you can improve recording quality in OBS is to increase your bitrate. Your bitrate controls how much used to make every second of the video. Having the bitrate set too low will cause bad recording quality as there isn’t enough information being saved. Using a bitrate of at least 10000 for 1080p recordings will give better quality recording without having the file size be too large. If you have a good PC you can always increase the bitrate further to improve recording quality even more.
If you’re using the CQP rate control option then you can adjust the video quality through the CQ level. The lower the CQ level the better quality your OBS recording will be. Typically using a CQ level of 18 will work fine, providing a decent file size and good recording quality.
Another option is to reduce your frame rate, however, this isn’t recommended for gameplay. The frame rate or FPS controls how many times the video is updated per second. Setting the FPS to 30 means your bitrate is being used across 30 different images, not 60. This allows you to improve recording quality without increasing the bitrate.
