(21 Jun 2015) Dozens of people died in Karachi over the weekend due to heatstroke as a scorching heathwave hit southern Pakistan.
According to the head of emergency department at Jinnah Hospital in Karachi, Doctor Semee Jamali, at least 85 people have died so far, with older people being the majority of the victims.
Over 700 patients have been admitted to the hospital for dehydration and heatstroke over the weekend, doctors said.
Temperatures in the southern Pakistani port city hit 45 degrees Celsius (113 Fahrenheit) on Saturday, close to an all-time high of 47 (117 Fahrenheit) from June 1979.
Weather reports suggest the heatwave is set to continue gripping the city for another few days.
