It seems very likely that either Lehi or Nephi, in his retelling the dream of the tree of life, had Psalm 51 in mind. Lehi repeated, almost verbatim, David’s plea for mercy from this psalm. Thereafter, several key words and themes can be found in Psalm 51. If, indeed, Lehi/Nephi meant to allude to this psalm of repentance, then it should be considered a key to understanding the meaning of Lehi’s dream. Learn more at
