The New York Central in the early 1940's--no Niagaras, no road diesels and the newest thing on rails was the streamlined Empire State Express. These scenes were filmed by the Office of War Information (OWI), some of them for the 1943 film "Troop Train" ([ Ссылка ]).
Scenes include:
0:15 A 4-6-2 Pacific backs up in Poughkeepsie. Part of the New Haven's high bridge across the Hudson can be seen in the distance.
0:54 A 4-6-4 Hudson leads an 11-car train at an unknown location.
1:13 Track maintenance in progress as a Hudson flies by with a string of reefer cars.
1:22 An Empire State Express, with a streamlined Super Hudson at its head, passes the track crew.
1:31 Another Hudson flies by. This (and the previous two shots) was taken at Clinton Point stone works, just south of Poughkeepsie
1:45 Southbound with just six cars. This appears to the tunnel at Oscawana Island.
2:02 A pair of shots at the Breakneck Ridge tunnels
2:37 A close-and-low shot on a bridge
2:58 Looking down from Anthony's Nose near the Bear Mountain Bridge
3:25 (after the credits) Another less successful shot at the bridge.
The National Archives has done an excellent job digitizing these films.
The film is silent, so as usual I've added a contemporary music track.
