One of Central Park's most picturesque landscapes, the Reservoir was constructed between 1858 and 1862.
The Reservoir, which spans 106 acres, was originally surrounded by a beautiful wrought-iron fence, but in 1926 it was replaced with a high chain-link barrier—blocking views of the cityscape. In 2003, the #CentralParkConservancy—with the public’s support—removed the chain-link enclosure and rebuilt the 8,170-foot-long fence to echo its original design.
Today, millions of Park visitors can look out over the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir and enjoy magnificent views of New York City. #Conservancy40
The mission of the Central Park Conservancy is to preserve and celebrate Central Park as a sanctuary from the pace and pressures of city life, enhancing the enjoyment and wellbeing of all.
