The minimum SAT score to receive a scholarship depends on where you are seeking a scholarship. For NCAA Divisions 1 and 2, an athlete must have a minimum combined SAT score of 400.
The NCAA Eligibility Center only uses the math and critical reading sections when deciding eligibility. If you have a 400 on your SATs, for example, you will need a 3.55 GPA or higher.
The Eligibility Center uses a sliding scale for the academic eligibility of athletes. For every .025 points your GPA decreases, you need to score 10 points higher on the exam. For instance, if you had a 2.55 GPA you would need a combined score of 800 points.
The lowest GPA the Eligibility Center allows is a 2.0. You need to score a combined 1010 to be eligible with a 2.0 GPA. If you want to see the NCAA's sliding scale you can find it on our website.
Individual schools determine eligibility at the NCAA Division 3 level.
D3 schools only offer academic scholarships. If you have a high SAT score, you have an excellent chance at getting additional academic scholarship help at the D3 level.
The NAIA requires an 860 combined score on the reading and math sections of the SAT, but only if you meet one of these other requirements: graduating in the top half of your class or at least a GPA of 2.0 out of 4.0. Any two out of three of these requirements will make you academically eligible for an NAIA scholarship.
Just because you're eligible doesn't mean that your standardized test scores or GPA are good enough to be accepted into a particular university. Each university determines its own admission requirements.
