And KDE Plasma 5.23.1 was officially released with improvements to Plasma Wayland and more. Check out the news and see how to install on Linux.
The KDE Plasma Desktop is an amazing environment that offers a beautiful appearance of the desktop that Total takes advantage of modern computing technology.
The team behind the project says that if you're looking for a familiar working environment, Plasma Desktop gives you all the tools you need for a modern desktop computing experience so you can be productive right from the start.
In fact, through the use of visual effects and scalable graphics, the desktop experience is not only smooth but also pleasing to the eye.
Now, the KDE Project today released the first one-off release in its series of KDE Plasma 5.23 desktop environments, KDE Plasma 5.23.1, fixing several issues and improving existing functionality.
KDE Plasma 5.23.1 released – Check out what's new
Last week, on October 14th, the KDE Project celebrated its 25th anniversary with the release of the KDE Plasma 5.23 desktop environment series, a major update that introduced many new features and improvements.
Now the first release point is already here, addressing various issues with the Plasma Wayland session, like a crash that occurred immediately after logging in when using the right Alt never chooses advanced 3rd level keyboard configuration.
In addition, the Plasma Wayland session now offers better support for GNOME apps, which now fully refresh their content when the window is maximized, and improves support for more apps to open with a normal window size the first time they are started.
In addition to these Wayland Plasma improvements, the timely release of KDE Plasma 5.23.1 improves support for Flatpak and Snap applications in the Discover package manager, which no longer crashes on Linux distributions that don't offer specific distro packages like Gentoo, improves the KWin window manager so that it no longer crashes when exiting the Firefox browser and offers better support for multi-screen configurations.
Also enhanced in this release is logging in using the “Others…” page of the login screen, right-clicking a file from the desktop when multiple files are selected, switching between views in the apps panel, as well as support for OpenConnect VPNs using a password-protected FSID key with a user certificate and no private key.
KDE Plasma 5.23.1 also fixes the “clear emoji history” action, as well as suspend and hibernate actions, and includes several other bug fixes.
How to install or update
Plasma 5.23.1 is already official, but as usual this doesn't mean we can easily install it on our Linux distribution.
The first system to have it available will be KDE neon, where it will probably arrive in the next few hours.
Later, they will add other distributions, among which Rolling Releases will come sooner, although that doesn't mean they will soon; it may take a few days or even a few weeks.
Then the KDE Plasma 5.23.1 desktop environment will soon arrive in the stable software repositories of your favorite Linux distribution, especially releases like KDE neon, Arch Linux, openSUSE Tumbleweed and Solus.
