It's a common misconception that draining your pool for winter will eliminate the need to winterize, and can save you time and money. But unfortunately, draining your pool is the last thing you should do, as it can lead to irreparable pool damage.
🚫 Unless you have a small temporary or kiddie pool, you should always keep water in your pool during the winter. Water helps stabilize the walls and floor of your inground or above ground pool. Without the proper amount of water, your pool can pop out of the ground, or completely cave in and collapse. While most winterizing procedures instruct you to slightly lower the water level in your pool, you should never fully drain your pool.
