GO Paris-Saclay has developed a synthetic biology project called "MethotrExit: The HeteroGenious Cleaning Factory". It is based on the development of bacterial strains capable of effectively degrading methotrexate, a pollutant in hospital wastewater, and a synthetic expression system to generate a division of labour in bacterial populations. This project was developed with the financial support of several partners including I2BC, Université Paris-Saclay and Université Paris-Sud. The I2BC has provided laboratories and 6 of the 7 supervisors work in this Institute.
