The 6 meter band is called "the magic band" because it does so many tricks. Often it is quiet with only local signals. But one of its tricks is opening communication over hundreds of miles when clouds of ionization in the E layer of the ionosphere coalesce and refract transmissions back to earth. FT8 is a relatively new digital mode that makes possible weak signal communication. The combination of radio and computer opens up new communications fun on the magic band, and here's what I recorded for a friend during a recent multi-hop opening. 73 de KL7DJ
